This has been a sad and emotional week. Darcy's long time friend Nicky, from Longwood College, lost her husband, John Morley, unexpectedly last Wednesday. He was 37 years young and he leaves behind a strong and loving wife and three sons, ages 5 months (Brad), 4 years old (Luke), and 7 years old (Ben). John was a loving father, husband, and friend and he will be missed by all. Nicky and the boys are in our thoughts and prayers.
On a very very happy note, Shawn received wonderful news this past week. She is officially cancer-free and is on the way to making a full recovery! Shawn has been so strong through this ordeal and handled the months of chemotherapy and radiation better than we did. We are so happy and relieved.
On to our little Lexa. We have found the perfect preschool for Lexa. Last Tuesday, Lexa and Darcy visited the Country Day School to see if it measured up to our standards, and it sure did. The school is a little log cabin nesteled in the woods and right up the road from us (less than 5 miles away!). Lexa walked right in, took off her coat, and started to play. She did not turn around once to check on Darcy. She joined right in during story and music time and worked in a small group on matching, and this was all during the 45 min we visited. Obviously the move to a new day care is going to be harder on us than it will be on her. Isn't that usually the way it goes? Lexa is going to start at her new school on June 16th, so Mike and Darcy have enough time to process and prepare for this change. Lexa spent the rest of the week going to Ms. Gails during the day and playing Barbies and dress up in the evenings.
This past weekend Lexa spent Saturday running errands with Darcy while Mike worked (well he actually slept and then worked overnights). On Sunday Lexa spent the day with with her cousin Riley while Darcy went to the viewing. We also enjoyed an overnight visit on Sunday from Dawn and Steve (more of Darcy's friends from college) so that they could attend the viewing and funeral. We really enjoyed the visit and they even got Darcy to watch an entire football game, the Superbowl no less. In the past, Mike and Darcy usually Tivo the game and then watch the commercials only, but not this time.
Yesterday Lexa went to the doctor because of a bad cough and she was diagnosed with Croup. It sound bad but it is really just an inflamation of the throat (at least that is how the doc described it) and she took one-dose steroid and is better already.
